Co-organized by UNESCO-APCEIU and Pangasinan State University- Bayambang Campus in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Bayambang, representatives from the seventy-seven barangays and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Bayambang, Pangasinan actively participated in the launch and opening of “Project LINGAP: Promoting Global Citizenship Education to Build a Culture of Peace in the Role of Local Government Units (LGUs) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).” The training workshop was held at the St. Vincent Ferrer Pavilion, Bayambang, Pangasinan, and will run from October 19, November 9, 16, and 23, 2024.

Mr. John Joseph D. Zarate, Project Leader and University Director for Continuing Professional Development opened the session with his talk on “GloCal Citizen: Opportunities and Challenges,” where he provided an overview of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and highlighted the significance of fostering a culture of peace. “It is my fervent hope that through this project, the LGU and SK member participants will gain a deeper understanding of the visions and goals of GCED to build a culture of peace and be motivated to implement what they learn in their future programs and activities as elected barangay LGU and SK officials,” Director Zarate added.

Local dignitaries such as Hon. Marianne Cheska Dulay, President of the SK Federation, Hon. Rodelito Bautista, President of the Association of Barangay Captains, and Hon. Ray Hope Bancolita, Local Youth Development Officer, also addressed the audience, sharing their insights on the vital role of local leadership in promoting peace and development.

The project received the support of esteemed university officials, including Dr. Elbert M. Galas, University President, Dr. Ian D. Evangelista, Vice President of Local and International Affairs, Dr. Cristeta C. Dulos, Director for Global Citizenship Education, Dr. Gudelia M. Samson, Campus Executive Director of PSU Bayambang, and Hon. Mary Clare Judith Phyllis Jose-Quiambao, Municipal Mayor of Bayambang, who all in support on reinforcing the importance of global citizenship and peace education in today’s society.

It is worth mentioning that the General Education Department of Bayambang led by Dr. Vemma Mae G. Olivar together with the GE Society, the youth organization of the department, serve as strong partners in the implementation of this remarkable project.

The event, which will resume on November 9, aims to provide youth leaders and local government officials with valuable insights on how they can promote global citizenship education, peace education, and sustainable development within their communities, thereby fostering a culture of peace and progress in Bayambang and beyond.

Before the year ends, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the students of Pangasinan State University, particularly the BPED III-1 students, for conducting your outreach program entitled “Liwliwa” on December 14, 2024, for the children of our barangay.

Thank you for bringing joy to the kids and for creating moments filled with fun and laughter. It was truly heartwarming to see the children enjoying the games that brought back the spirit of play and innocence we all cherished growing up.

This experience was not only meaningful for the children but also for the supportive parents who came together to make the day even more special.

The graduating students of Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus successfully completed a massive tree-growing initiative on June 25th, 2024, planting over 13,880 seedlings across the campus and partner institutions.

The initiative, mandated by Republic Act No. 9512 and CHED Memorandum Order No. 33,. 2009, aimed to integrate environmental education into the tertiary curriculum and contribute to the 2024 World Environment Day theme, “#GenerationRestoration”.

All 1,388 graduating students participated, planting a minimum of 10 timber and fruit bearing seedlings each. The activity was divided into three groups:

Group 1: Graduating students with Latin honors and non-academic awardees planted their trees on campus grounds.

Group 2: Graduating students with academic distinction awards planted trees at partner institutions: Tanolong Elementary School, Tanolong National High School, and Bani Elementary School.

Group 3: The remaining graduating students planted trees in their respective barangays, coordinating with local officials and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) to determine suitable locations and species.

The initiative will be supported by a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between PSU-BC and the LGU Bayambang, solidifying the partnership in promoting environmental conservation. The PRPIO, The Reflector, Supreme Student Council, and graduating class advisers ensured widespread participation.

Beyond tree planting, the initiative is a long-term commitment to environmental stewardship. A monitoring system has been established to track the growth and health of the planted trees. The campus nursery has been revived to provide replacement seedlings, ensuring the continuity of the initiative.

The “PSU Bayambang Campus Tree Growing Activity” is a testament to the institution’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development. The participation and cooperation of all students, faculty, and staff were crucial to the success of this initiative, which will have a lasting positive impact on the environment and the community.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region III PSTO-Tarlac successfully conducted a benchmarking activity on modern food innovation through the adoption of advanced technological solutions at the DOST I Food Innovation Center (FIC) located at Pangasinan State University-Bayambang Campus (PSU-BC) on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

The activity, aimed at fostering technological collaboration, was led by Dr. Wilma M. De Vera, head of the FIC, and included inspiring messages from key PSU-BC officials. Dr. Razeale G. Resultay, Vice President for External Relations, Innovation, and Governance (VPEREIGn), and Dr. Guidelia M. Samson, Campus Executive Director, were represented by Dr. Mitzy M. Macaraeg, Dean of the College of Teacher Education.

The event was also attended by esteemed members of DOST Region III PSTO-Tarlac, including Provincial S&T Director Ms. Karen Y. Dañez, Ms. Marvi T. Dela Cruz from the Tarlac PLGU, Ms. Nikki Dyan C. Padilla, Mr. Adonis L. Tababa, Ms. Rhebenson J. Quaratiquit, and Mr. Joseph Roxn.
The discussions began with Dr. Razeale G. Resultay emphasizing the importance of collaboration between DOST III and the Food Innovation Center of PSU-BC. “This collaboration is an indication that within DOST, we are united,” Dr. Resultay stated. She further explained that the benchmarking activity would allow both DOST III and DOST I to learn from each other’s best practices.

The primary focus of the partnership was to explore how the technologies at PSU-BC’s FIC could be adapted and implemented in Tarlac. One specific goal was to increase the value of ladyfinger products. This initiative stemmed from the challenges faced by Jeifarm Enterprises in Tarlac, which generates 4 to 5 tons of daily rejects due to the stringent export standards for okra. By adopting FIC’s technologies, including equipment, technology transfer, and expertise, the partnership aimed to improve food management practices and potentially reduce waste.

Additionally, the collective dialogue addressed the need for breakthrough products, with a particular focus on emergency food reserves (EFR) for disaster relief. Dr. Wilma De Vera led a discussion on innovative food products developed by FIC, such as Binagoongang Bangus, Ready-to-Eat Ginisang Buro, Ready-to-Eat Ginisang Moringa, and Longganisa. These products could significantly contribute to the country’s disaster preparedness efforts.

The event also highlighted the alignment of FIC’s technological innovations with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, “Responsible Consumption and Production.” This goal aims to ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns, an objective that the FIC’s work in food innovation strives to support.

The Pangasinan State University-Bayambang Campus held a comprehensive orientation on Gender and Development, Global Citizenship Education, and Volunteerism on September 25, 2024. The event aimed to educate students on the significance of these crucial topics in today’s society.

Mr. Leonardo V. Basilio, Dean of Student Services, warmly welcomed students and guests to the event. Ms. Estrelyn B. Caraan, Coordinator of Human Resource, explained the program’s purpose, emphasizing its importance in fostering a culture of inclusivity and social responsibility among students.
Dr. Gudelia M. Samson, Campus Executive Director, emphasized the importance of gender and development in addressing social inequalities.

Dr. Mitzy M. Macaraeg, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, introduced Dr. Presley V. De Vera, Coordinator of Gender and Development-PSU Open University Systems, who provided an overview of basic concepts in gender and development.

In the afternoon session, Ms. Angeline L. Velasco, Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling, and Dr. Vemma Mae G. Olivar, Department Chair of General Education Department, introduced Dr. Cristeta C. Dulos, University Director of Global Citizenship Education, represented by Dr. Krigher Simbulan, Head of Faculty and Student Mobility and Dr. Armando D. Junio, University Director of Extension Services, respectively.

Dr. Dulos discussed how global citizenship education can respond to gender and development challenges. Meanwhile, Dr. Junio emphasized the role of volunteerism in promoting social change and community development.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Ma. Theresa E. Macaltao, Coordinator of Gender and Development-PSU Bayambang.

The orientation aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become active agents of change in promoting gender equality, social justice, and global citizenship.

Pangasinan State University Bayambang Campus hosted a Job Fair and Career Opportunities event today, June 17, 2024, at the Bayambang Events Center in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). The event was attended by stakeholders, graduating students, alumni, and visitors from the surrounding areas.

The one-day event aimed to provide a platform for various agencies and organizations to connect with potential job seekers and offer them unparalleled job opportunities and career advancement prospects. A total of nine participating agencies were present at the fair, offering a wide range of job openings across different industries.

The participating agencies included CS First Green Agri-Industrial Development Inc., One Document Corporation, SM Hypermarket, Starman Enterprises Incorporated, Sutherland Global Services, Global Mode Manpower Services Inc., CS First Builders Inc., Arc Refreshments Corporation, Staff Search Asia Service Cooperative, and Foundever Phils. Corp., as well as Jenerick International Manpower Inc.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for graduating students and alumni to explore job opportunities and network with potential employers. Employers also had the chance to meet and interview potential candidates on the spot.

The event was well-received by attendees, who praised the organizers for providing a smooth and organized experience.
