The Pangasinan State University-Bayambang Campus held a comprehensive orientation on Gender and Development, Global Citizenship Education, and Volunteerism on September 25, 2024. The event aimed to educate students on the significance of these crucial topics in today’s society.

Mr. Leonardo V. Basilio, Dean of Student Services, warmly welcomed students and guests to the event. Ms. Estrelyn B. Caraan, Coordinator of Human Resource, explained the program’s purpose, emphasizing its importance in fostering a culture of inclusivity and social responsibility among students.
Dr. Gudelia M. Samson, Campus Executive Director, emphasized the importance of gender and development in addressing social inequalities.

Dr. Mitzy M. Macaraeg, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, introduced Dr. Presley V. De Vera, Coordinator of Gender and Development-PSU Open University Systems, who provided an overview of basic concepts in gender and development.

In the afternoon session, Ms. Angeline L. Velasco, Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling, and Dr. Vemma Mae G. Olivar, Department Chair of General Education Department, introduced Dr. Cristeta C. Dulos, University Director of Global Citizenship Education, represented by Dr. Krigher Simbulan, Head of Faculty and Student Mobility and Dr. Armando D. Junio, University Director of Extension Services, respectively.

Dr. Dulos discussed how global citizenship education can respond to gender and development challenges. Meanwhile, Dr. Junio emphasized the role of volunteerism in promoting social change and community development.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Ma. Theresa E. Macaltao, Coordinator of Gender and Development-PSU Bayambang.

The orientation aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become active agents of change in promoting gender equality, social justice, and global citizenship.
