In spite of the heavy weather and busy schedules, the faculty of the Languages Department of Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus conducted its extension activity entitled Project READ:  A Seminar-Workshop on Sounds of English at Tanolong Elementary and National High School,  Tanolong, Bayambang on September 6, 2019. 

The seminar-workshop is a university-funded activity that is carried out by the department annually.

With a budget of Php 5,000.00, the Languages Department was able to design and administer the said event aiming to equip and train the teachers of Tanolong Elementary School (TES) and Tanolong National High School (TNHS) concerning the proper teaching of sounds and symbols to their students.

Also, TES and TNHS teachers were given exercises and were taught how to produce or execute the right sounds of the English language which made the workshop more enjoyable and interesting.

Asso. Prof. Tuesday de Leon, the extension project leader, served as the lecturer to the teachers of TES and TNHS. She highlighted the importance of this seminar-workshop because it teaching of the proper sound production is crucial to the learning of reading.           Topics on the International Phonetic Alphabet, vowel sounds, critical consonant sounds, places, and manner of articulation were explored during the said activity.
