DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Pena and Undersecretary Sancho A. Mabborang, along with DOST 1 Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal, Filipino Inventorโ€™s Society Producer Cooperative (FISPC) President Francisco โ€œPopoyโ€ Pagayon graced the PSU-DOST 1- Food Innovation Center (FIC) awarding ceremony conducted at Pangasinan State University, Bayambang Campus, February 17.
The university, lead by President Dr. Dexter R. Buted, welcomed the guests and lead the tour around the said research facility, and the food products exhibit at the Aldana Gymnasium.
After the formal launching of this Region 1โ€™s first FIC in the PSU-BC on August 11, 2018, the PSU-DOST 1-FIC proves its high quality service and innovation through various processing equipments which improves product quality and increases the production. The FIC team has produced new products such as Indian mango chips, onion chips, vaccum fried squash, crispy okra, burong walang amoy, pineapple plum, yummy tupig, kalamay, etc.
FIC targets the standardization of these products to improve livelihood and income local venturing of the business, increase market potentials, and satisfy the demands. Moreover, it also aims to provide techno-hub for micro, small, and medium food industries in Region I to improve the quality of existing food products that leads to the increase of local competitiveness and export markets.
